In their words

What families have told us

My mother died at three in the morning and someone answered the phone. They came to the house, explained what would happen next, and did not try to sell me anything I did not need.

Maria G.

The price I was quoted on the phone was the price on the paperwork. For a direct cremation, that was all I needed to know.

Robert L.

They handled the permits and the death certificates, so I never had to visit a county office. The ashes came back to us in about a week, as they said.

Anh T.

Questions families ask

Cremation questions, answered plainly

How much does cremation cost in Los Angeles?

Typically direct cremations range from $2500-$6000 but here at Valley Memorial it is $950, the cheapest in Los Angeles that covers transfer to our mortuary, the paperwork and two certified copies of the death certificate, and the cremation itself. You receive an itemized price list in writing before you agree to anything.

How long does the cremation process take?

In Los Angeles County the permits usually take a few business days to clear. Once we have them, the cremation itself takes several hours. Most families receive the ashes about seven to ten days after they first call us. If you have a date you are working toward, tell us and we will tell you plainly whether it is possible.

Can we still have a viewing or a service if we choose cremation?

A direct cremation does not include a viewing or a gathering, but families have the option to choose direct cremations with (ID) Viewing or a Witnessed Cremation. Call us and we will explain the difference in cost.

Do we need to buy a casket for a cremation?

No. A cremation does not require a purchased casket. Direct cremation uses a simple container, and that container is included in the $950.

What paperwork do you handle?

All of it. We file the death certificate with the county, obtain the disposition permit required before a cremation can take place, and order the certified copies you need for banks, insurers, and government agencies. You do not need to visit any county office yourself.

How many death certificates should we order?

The $950 direct cremation includes two certified copies. If the family needs more, it can be ordered by request. Additional copies cost less when ordered together at the start, so we will ask you about this early.

What if the death happened at home, at a hospital, or out of state?

Call us either way. If your loved one passed at home, we come to the house, any hour. If it was at a hospital or care facility, we coordinate the release directly with their staff. If the death happened outside California, we arrange transport into our care and explain the added cost before it is incurred.

Can we pre-plan and pay in advance?

Yes. You can choose the cremation you want, record your wishes with us, and pay in advance so the cost is settled and your family is not making decisions under pressure. There is no obligation to pay anything to start a plan, and we will not push you toward a larger package.
