What we arrange

The services we hold

Traditional funeral service

A full ceremony in our chapel or at your church, followed by the procession to the cemetery. We manage the order of the day from start to finish.

Graveside and burial service

A shorter service held at the grave itself, with seating and a tent for the family. Suitable when a chapel ceremony is not what you want.

Viewing and visitation

Time set aside for family and friends to see your loved one before the service. We prepare and dress them, and stay nearby throughout.

Religious and cultural services

Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and the customs of many communities in Los Angeles. We follow the tradition you name, in its own order.

Memorial service

A service held without the body present, for families who have already buried their loved one or who want to gather at a later date.

Veterans' honors

Flag presentation, military honors, and filing for national cemetery burial and any benefits your family is entitled to.

Transport and shipping out of state

Arrangements to send your loved one to another state or country, coordinated with the receiving funeral home and the airline.

On-site chapel for services

In their words

What families have told us

They gave me the full cost in writing on the first call, and nothing was added to it later. For a burial that mattered more than I expected.

Elena V.

My father wanted a graveside service and no more than that. They arranged exactly that, and the director stayed until the last person left the cemetery.

James O.

My mother died a little after midnight. Someone answered, explained what would happen next, and came for her that same night.

Priya S.

Questions families ask

Funeral and burial questions, answered plainly

How much does a funeral cost in Los Angeles?

Typically in Los Angeles burial services range from $15k-$30k, but here at Valley Memorial our burial packages start at $6,500 and cover the director's services, transportation, preparation, the funeral coach, the casket, flowers, the permit, and certified copies. Cemetery property and the opening of the grave are paid to the cemetery separately, and we will tell you what to expect there before you sign anything with us.

How soon after a death should we hold the service?

Most families here hold the service within four to eight days. That allows time for the permit to clear, for relatives to travel, and for the cemetery to confirm a date. Some traditions call for burial much sooner. Tell us what you need and we will work backward from it.

What's included in a burial package?

The professional services of our funeral director and staff, removal and transportation into our care, embalming and storage, the church or priest, the funeral coach, flowers, refreshments for the people who attend, a photo enlargement, the disposition permit, two certified death certificates, and a casket up to the amount listed in the package.

Do you work with a cemetery we've already chosen?

Yes. If you own property already or have a cemetery in mind, we coordinate directly with their office on the date, the graveside timing, and the paperwork they require. Bring the deed or the plot information to the arrangement meeting if you have it.

Can you accommodate our religious or cultural traditions?

Yes. We arrange and accommodate for all religions and the customs of families from many communities across Los Angeles. Tell us what the tradition requires — timing, who prepares the body, what is said, who carries the casket — and we will build the day around it.

What if our loved one passed away out of state?

We arrange transport into our care from anywhere in the country, working with a funeral home at that end and with the airline. This adds cost, and we will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Are veterans' benefits available?

Any Honorably discharged Veteran with the proper paperwork are eligible for burial in a national cemetery at no cost for the grave, along with the United States flag. Bring the DD-214 if you can find it, and we will file on your family's behalf.

What should we bring to the arrangement meeting?

Photo identification for the person who died, their Social Security number, their parents' names and their mother's maiden name, their place of birth, the clothing you want them dressed in, a photograph for the enlargement, and the cemetery deed and DD-214 if those apply. If something is missing, come anyway — we can start without it.
